Esther Dawson, the founder and director of Fun Friends, set up the organisation in 2017 after seeing how many young people struggled to access traditional after‑school and holiday activities. With a background as a paediatric nurse and experience in the charity sector, Esther brings empathy, energy and a deep understanding of the young people she supports. Her priority is always their safety, wellbeing and sense of belonging.
Fun Friends now runs groups for ages 7–12, 13–17 and 18–25 across Sidcup, Wilmington, Dartford and Swanley. Each group is tailored to its age range, with activities designed to build confidence, friendships, independence and life skills in a safe and welcoming environment.
Esther is supported by a team of trained and experienced staff and volunteers, all of whom hold current DBS certificates. They come from a wide range of backgrounds and ages but share the same commitment: ensuring every young person has the best time possible when attending Fun Friends.
If you’re interested in joining the Fun Friends team, we’d love to hear from you! All staff and volunteers receive training and work alongside experienced helpers who know the groups well. Everyone has a current DBS certificate and no one works 1:1, so you’re always part of a supportive team. It’s a great way to make a real difference to young people while gaining confidence, skills and experience in a friendly, welcoming environment.
